International Music Competition and Music Festival Beethovenův Hradec 2011

The 50thBeethoven’s Hradec International Music Competition and Music Festival is announced by Talent, the Association for Arts and Education in cooperation with the National Institute for the Preservation of Historical Monuments - the Management of Hradec nad Moravicí Castle. The Competition is kindly supported by the Moravian-Silesian Regional Council, the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the Municipal Council of Hradec nad Moravicí, the Silesian Foundation of Opava. and other sponsors.
The competition will be held from 3 - 5 June 2011 at the castle in Hradec nad Moravicí where Ludwig van Beethoven was a guest of Count Karl Lichnovski in 1806 and 1811 and Ferenc Liszt in 1846 and 1847.
The piano competition is for students of music schools (conservatory, college, university, academy). It has no age categories.

Those wishing to take part in the competition should complete the attached application form and send it to:

The application should enclose a passport size photograph.
The deadline for applications is 8 April 2011.

By 29 April 2011 applicants will be sent a notification of whether their application has been accepted and the schedule of the competition.

Entry fee

Those who receive confirmation of their application will pay an entry fee of 1.500 CZK (60 EUR) on the bank account. The number of the account will be sent in the information letter.

Accommodation

Accommodation, per diems and travel costs are not covered by the organiser. The organiser will grant the accompanist for the 3rd round. When the competitor has an own accompanist he has to cover his accomodation costs. Furthermore, the organiser cannot take responsibility for underage candidates, nor be liable for damage or injury caused to a candidate’s person or property.

Repertoire

1st round (the duration is max. 15 minutes)

a) J. S. Bach: prelude and fugue (free choice from The Well-Tempered Clavier )
b)a concert etude or piece in virtuosic style

2nd round (the duration is 30 - 40 minutes)

a) L.van Beethoven: a sonata (all movements)
b) a representative piece (or choice from the cycle) from the 19th, 20th or 21 century

3rd round

L.van Beethoven or F. Liszt: a piano concerto (free choice)

Playing from memory is mandatory.
All competition rounds are open to the public and the identity of performers will be made public without exception. The organiser reserves the right to produce audio or video recordings of competition performances which may be used for publicity purposes without the consent of the candidate. Copyright is not applicable in relation to the use of these recordings.
